Matt Van Campen, MSPT | Director Monmouth Clinic
Matt Van Campen, MSPT CSCS has moved from being the director at our McNary Physical Therapy & Rehab clinic in Keizer to the director of our Monmouth Physical Therapy & Rehab clinic. He has been a director for PT Northwest since 2003.
Matt has been practicing physical therapy for 8 years. Not a native Oregonian, Matt was raised in Wyoming where he attended the University of Wyoming to obtain his Bachelors Degree. He came to Oregon to pursue his Masters Degree in Physical Therapy at Pacific University in Forest Grove. It was during a clinical rotation at one of our locations that we first met Matt.
Matt’s expertise is an innovative approach integrating manual therapy techniques (Mulligan spinal and extremity mobilization, strain-counterstrain, muscle energy techniques, soft tissue mobilization) with strength training concepts and muscular balance for the rehabilitation of injured individuals.
According to Matt, “I value the opportunity to communicate with my patients and use a ‘patient first’ approach to treatment. Using life experience, I am committed to connect with each person to identify what motivational factors and educational needs they might need. Involving patients actively in their recovery is most effective when education is emphasized. I believe this is key in helping them cope and strategize throughout their rehabilitation.”
Outside of the clinic, Matt is an avid mountaineer and as a member of the Chemeketans, a local outdoors group, has honed skills that help him enjoy numerous summits. As a physical therapist, he continues to build skills that allow him to help his patients reach their personal rehabilitation summits. Matt is also an avid member of Rotary.
Matt has already achieved two advanced certifications. Matt is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified ASTYM Provider. His current continuing education endeavors include progressive sports rehab techniques as well as furthering his manual therapy background.
Tom Whittaker, a disabled climber who wears a below the knee prosthesis and reached the summit of Everest in ’98, once said: “The spirit of mountaineering is the need to sustain the soul through adventure. It is not the summit it is the journey to the summit that is the prize. The outer journey leads us within. The rewards are in self knowledge that comes from pursuing our dreams with love and courage.” Matt takes this approach in everything he does. He looks forward to helping your patients on their journey through rehabilitation in anyway he can, so they can return to achieving their personal goals and reach their full potential.
